Soldier On enlisted the help of Aurora Adventures for Liam Haven’s One Foot Forward March in September 2012.
Liam Haven, blinded by an IED blast in Iraq, walked from Sydney to Canberra to raise money and awareness for wounded Australians and Soldier On. This event posed many challenges given Liam’s limited eye sight and challenges on the road, but with a very short lead-up time Aurora Adventures managed to develop a logistics plan for the event and helped to secure permissions and support from police. They also organised the support crew for the walk and provided regular updates to Soldier On throughout the event.

On numerous occasions where changes were required or routes needed to be updated, the team at Aurora was flexible and diligent in their response. No job was too hard and constant contact between the charity and the team on the ground was essential to the success of the event.

We would be happy to work with Aurora Adventures again in the future, as their approach was professional, comprehensive and organised. The size of their team also allowed the event to develop, expand and change as and when was needed. Their passion for their work, and for ensuring the success of their events, means Soldier On will work with Aurora Adventures again where we can.

The Kokoda trail is an awe aspiring, challenging, backbreaking and definitely a once in a life-time adventure worth undertaking! As such it requires a professional outfit to provide the guidance and support to make this the incredible experience that it is for all who participate in it.

Undertaking this adventure through Aurora Adventures, Mary Smith the owner and her team made sure of the highest level of professionalism throughout our travels. With a very strong emphasis on respect for the local community and environment, a deep understanding of the historical importance to Australian and PNG people and a clear view in support for the link to the charity Hike4hunger, Mary Smith and our team lead Sally McWilliam were the consummate professionals.

The Kokoda trail enabled the forging of new and lasting friendships, incredible memories of exotic locations and breathtaking sceneries and meeting wonderful locals. Mary and Sally thank you!

The Black Cat Track in PNG was an amazing trek experience. Thanks to Mary and Aurora Adventures for getting us all through to the end. The whole trip was so well organised and because of that we get to see a side of PNG that many trekkers will never see. The happy smiles of the village kids were priceless. The local PNG porters helped us get past some challenging sections where one wrong step could have been a long way down! Thanks for a great trek. I can’t wait until I can trek with Aurora Adventures again soon. :)

Mary Smith is a dynamo, with her two feet firmly on the ground marching towards great charitable causes.

She is a natural and engaging leader who through her company Aurora Adventures took me and a group of 24 hikers/porters along The Kokoda Track in October 2012. Her overriding priority, at all times, was the safety and welfare of all her fellow trekkers, whom she takes the time to get to know individually. Her humour, experience, humility, knowledge and generosity of spirit shone through as the trekked progressed. We had the experience of a lifetime. The Aurora Team were surefooted in all their judgments and decisions along the way, and the organisation was so tight the 8 days passed without incident.

The Kokoda Track is not the same without Mary Smith & Aurora Adventures.

Mary is an understated over-achiever. She & the Aurora Team put their heart into the charity hike from Kokoda that she organised and led for us. She used great relationships with the locals in PNG as well as her interest in the stories behind the campaign to turn an 8-day trek through jungle into an adventure we will all remember for a lifetime.

I first met Mary when acted as our support crew for the Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge when we entered a team in 2010. She did an amazing job, went above and beyond to the point where I don't think our team would have been successful without her. I have also worked with Mary in preparation for corporate performance programs. She has limitless passion and energy for the adventure based work that she does. She has a clear vision, knows what works and how to put everything in place so that it comes together in a seamless experience. I am looking forward to us working together to continue our working relationship and bring her clients a well-rounded physically and mentally enhancing experience in their work with her. I can't recommend her highly enough.
