Departure Dates: See our on-line calendar for details

If you are looking for a short adventure in North America that will challenge you at altitude then this trek is for you!

Join the Aurora Adventures team on this challenge as we enjoy the views and landscape of this incredible wilderness. The trek ascends the 14,505ft summit from the west and offers stunning views of the Sequoia National Park and Cottonwood Pass with alpine lakes, lush meadows, and multiple 14,000ft peaks. Pack mules follow the group so you can travel light during the day. This short trek can be enjoyed as part of an American holiday or a climbing challenge of one of the highest points in the lower forty-eight states of America.

Join us on this North American hike and support an Aurora charity or choose one of your own and change someone’s life for the better.

Our Itinerary:

Day 1 - LOS ANGELES / LONE PINE
After arrival into Los Angeles International Airport we are personally met and transferred to the small town of Lone Pine 3.5 hours away. In the early evening there will be a climb brief, pack sorting, and route instructions.

Day 2 - MT WHITNEY
With an early start we will enjoy a continental breakfast at the hotel before we depart for Cottonwood Pack Station. Our drive will take us approx. 40 minutes up to 3,000 metres. After loading the mules we will begin our trek toward Mt Whitney beginning with a climb over Cottonwood Pass situated at 3600 metres and our first experience at altitude. We will descend down to our camp at just above 2700 metres. We then trek around 21 kilometres to our camp at Rock Creek entering the Sequoia National Park encountering some spectacular scenery overlooking numerous alpine lakes and rushing streams.

Day 3 - MT WHITNEY
After a good breakfast at camp we begin with a climb over Guyot Pass and our second acclimating test to 3,300 metres before we drop down into Guyot Flat and Crabtree Meadows. This is an almost 13 kilometre day concluding at Guitar Lake where we will stage our summit attempt. We will camp at 3,500 metres and feel inspired by numerous surrounding peaks.

Day 4 - MT WHITNEY / SUMMIT
We begin the day with an early start, hot breakfast and gear check prior to making the trek up to the summit. Our climb is 7.7 kilometres to the summit with numerous switchbacks leading us to the highest point in the lower 48. After we summit we will have time to enjoy the surrounding views overlooking the Owen Valley to the east and the vast forests and lakes to the west. With an early start we will have plenty of time to descend back to camp for a well-deserved dinner and celebration.

Day 5  - MT WHITNEY
We retrace our steps back through Guyot Flats and into our initial camp at Rock Creek. This is a shorter day on the trail and with an early start we have a chance to relax and enjoy our final campsite. The trail is primarily down hill with a final push over Guyot Pass before we descend back to Rock Creek.

Day 6 - MT WHITNEY
This will be our final day and after rising early we can be back to the trailhead for a late lunch and plenty of time to shower and enjoy the night after our amazing adventure. The trail is predominantly up hill with plenty of spectacular views on our way out of the park.

Day 7 - LONE PINE / LOS ANGELES / DEPART
We check out of the hotel and are transferred to Los Angeles International Airport for an evening departure or onward programs.
