DEPARTURE DATES-See our online calendar for details

Join us on this short trek in East Africa!

Located 70 kilometers west of Mt Kilimanjaro and the fifth highest mountain in Tanzania (at 4568 meters), Mt Meru, nestled in the expansive Arusha National park is considered one of Tanzania’s true gems. This incredible trek offers the same amazing terrain and landscape as Mt Kilimanjaro but is a much shorter trek for those who have family and work commitments that prevent a longer journey. Alternatively, this is a great journey coupled with our Zanzibar experience as a reward following your climb or as a precursor to climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

This adventure with incredible sightings of wildlife including buffalo grazing, trekking through alpine desert and tackling the steep volcanic craters and cliffs that form part of this immensely beautiful landscape is the experience of a lifetime. After our breathtaking trek and climb through this amazing terrain we finally reach the summit of this majestic mountain to take in the sunrise at dawn over Mt Kilimanjaro prior to our descent, having achieved a very special goal with our team.

Enquire today and make a difference to your own life and to those of others by taking on a challenge to support one of our recommended charities or perhaps a charity special to you. Walking for a special cause amongst like-minded trekkers will leave you feeling exhilarated and inspired long after finishing this challenge.

Our Itinerary

Day 1 - ARUSHA
Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport we are personally met and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. This evening there is a comprehensive briefing and equipment check with our Climbs Manager and guides.

Day 2 - MERU / MIRIAKAMBA
In the morning we are collected from our hotel and transferred to Arusha National Park. At the Momella gate we finish registration formalities before setting off with our guide and armed ranger - there is abundant wildlife in the forests! The forest section is especially scenic with strangler figs and the possibility of seeing buffalo grazing in one of the clearings. In the late afternoon we reach a viewpoint before heading onto Miriakamba hut for dinner.

Day 3 -MERU / SADDLE HUT
We set off from Miriakamba initially still in the forest zone but in a few hours we reach Saddle hut for lunch in the alpine desert zone. In the afternoon a walk to the summit of Little Meru can be taken for stunning views before heading back to Saddle Hut for dinner.

Day 4 - MERU / SUMMIT / MIRIAKAMBA
We rise early and our hard work is rewarded at dawn as the sun rises to the East. Kilimanjaro is normally clearly seen from here and the sheer cliffs of the crater fall dramatically 300 metres or more. We return back and after some brunch at Saddle Hut, we continue down to Miriakamba hut for dinner.
