Kimberley Coastal Fishing

PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to the beautiful Kimberley Coast

Kimberley Coastal Camp is located on the remote Kimberley Coast opposite the iconic Mitchell Falls. Here we find a small lodge catering to a maximum 12 guests with access restricted to helicopter and float plane. Due to the isolation, the fishing in these parts is magnificent and the country that Kimberley Coastal Camp sits on, belonging to the Wunambal people, is home to the highest concentration of indigenous rock art in the world.

Did we mention that fishing in these waters is the pinnacle of fishing? So rewarding as there is so much wildlife around. It’s not uncommon to see crocodiles sunning themselves on the river banks, sea eagles, osprey, turtles and dolphins while out in the boat.

Team Aurora and our super crew based at the lodge will ensure an exceptional fishing adventure. This 'trek' includes air transfers from Kununurra to Kimberley Coastal Camp return, a scenic flight over the Mitchell Falls, all meals and snacks, twin share accommodation, all fully guided activities, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Best thing on this adventure we cater to our team so we can be as active or relaxed as we need. Meals generally include catch on the day (so make sure you catch something good) and fresh seasonal produce grown in the nearest township and flow out complimented by homemade cakes, deserts, breads and biscuits. Sounds hard but rest assured desserts will be sacrificed if you do not catch something good for dinner!

5pm: Return to camp for shower and clean up.

Day 2: Breakfast AM: Fishing or bushwalk to rock art. Lunch back at camp. PM: Fishing or bush walk to rock art.

Day 3: Breakfast AM: Head out by boat for day's fishing, take your catch onto a beautiful island where the guide will cook it in the coals for lunch with a gourmet picnic Return to camp mid afternoon for a relax by the pool, watch the sea eagles and dingo come in for some fish.

Day 4: Break fast AM: Mud-crabbing up one of the small creeks, can often spot crocs while catching mud-crabs. Others may prefer to take a walk to an incredible rock art site followed by a river swim. Approx 2.5km over slightly rock country, not too bad though. Lunch PM: More optional activities such as fishing, more rock art, relaxing etc

Day 5: Late breakfast 10am/11am Departure back to Kununurra (allow 2 hours). In Kununurra we recommend the Pinctada Kimberley Grande, Freshwater Apartments or Kununurra Country Club. We also have options available departing from Broome.

We recommend fishing the neap tide. They have less tidal movement. We have availability on the late May neap tides commencing on the 20th May. This coincides with a large festival in Kununurra, the Ord Valley Muster, and you might enjoy spending a night there and attending an Aboriginal Corroboree or music performance. Other neap tide availability throughout the year is 3 June – 7 June, 3-10 July, 19-25 July, 3-9 August and 17-23 August.
